Voice and structure
- Active voice, subject → verb → object
- Present tense — what's happening now
- Use contractions — sounds human
- One idea per sentence
Casing and punctuation
- Sentence case everywhere
- No end punctuation on titles or labels
- One exclamation per screen, max
- No ALL CAPS except real acronyms
Clarity
- Avoid jargon
- Don't describe the interface
- Frame around user goals, not the system
- Lead with what the user needs now
Tone
- Don't apologize unnecessarily
- Don't blame the user
- Specific verbs over generic ("Delete", not "OK")
